Odd Picture of the Day.

Bottle Brush Trees

It looks like a Hedgehog, a bottle brush and a Womble having a meeting. (You do remember Wombles don't you?) There are so many wonderful things to be found in the Australian bush.

Big Rig

This digger doesn't look so remarkable until you look closer. Can you see the full size digger in front of it? Can you see the orange speck behind the scoop that is a man and his truck?

This digger is massive and it comes with a massive price tag. The tire tracks alone are worth a million dollars. There are hundreds of these working on mine sites all over Australia. Amazing.

A sausage tree or a potato tree?

Neither, but these suburban trees sure have some interesting looking tubers hanging from the branches.

Prepare to Stop

On a beautiful quiet road in the farmlands east of Brisbane someone has posted this low tech traffic sign. Surprising? It sure is.

Australia has so many road signs. We really do.  Who is going to look at graffiti on the road? So cute...

Australia is one of the most surprising places on earth.

It has the largest amount of land per person of any country other than Antarctica, but around 80% of the population are crowded into the urban areas along the East coast.

Australia has only 1% of the worlds population, but it has 20% of the worlds poker machines and  there is less land covered by mines than there is by pubs. Australia's shortest bar is only 1.2 metres long and there is one in Melbourne 70 metres long.

The World's Biggest Hamburger

Mexico has the record for the worlds biggest sandwich, the Greeks have the record for the worlds biggest Kebab, the English made the world's biggest Hot Cross bun but a cafe in Sydney, Australia has the record for the world's largest hamburger.  It weighs 95.5kgs and is made with made with 81kg of mince, 120 eggs, 16 tomatoes, 120 cheese slices, 2kg of lettuce, 21kg of bread and half a kilo of barbecue sauce. Now that's a lot of food. See the worlds biggest hamburger here.

The Largest Human Mattress Dominoes

A little bizarre, but 80 people arranged themselves with 80 mattresses in a chain of dominoes and set a new world record. You can see the Human Mattress Dominoes Here.

The worlds Most Boring Man

Les Stewart of Queensland Australia spent fifteen years typing out the numbers from one to one million in letters, not numbers. I wonder what he is doing now. You can read more about Les and see his photo here.
