Diving at Nelson Bay Marine Reserve.

Posted by Nikki Ah on Friday, March 26, 2010, In : New South Wales

I am sitting on a beautiful beach at Nelson Bay near Sydney Australia. The sand is the texture of sugar with little sparkles in it; brown like raw sugar but finer. The sun is just the width of my hand up in the sky and still warm and soothing. It feels nice and I am enjoying topping up my fading tan.

I am on the beach because my ears hurt. I went diving this morning with Phil, Grant and Nigel. Grant was my teacher and was quite patient when I got sore ears but not patient enough and  thin...

Broken down on the side of the Road.

Posted by Nikki Ah on Friday, March 26, 2010, In : Motorbikes

I love my bike and travelling around Oz, but it can be a little scary at times. I had my first breakdown when I was heading to Ipswitch to see my kids. My bike began to lose power as I was nearing the last motorway turn off. Every fourth stroke of the engine it would stop. …..Then every second. I changed down gears and that seemed to help ….. Just as I  took the exit the bike stopped working completely. I coasted to a stop in the 12 inches between the edge of the lane and the kerb

Seaworld on the Gold Coast

Posted by Nikki Ah on Thursday, March 25, 2010, In : Queensland

I have a new favourite theme park. Forget all the fast roller coasters and thrilling free falls. I am much more at home watching the dolphins and touching the stingray’s smooth sides as they glide past. There are loads of places to spend money, gift shops, food places, games, other rides helicopter, shows and a water park but the included activities were enough for me. What a wonderful place.

It has a nice wide open feel as you enter so is less claustrophobic than some theme parks....

Ipswitch Railway Workshops

Posted by Nikki Ah on Thursday, March 25, 2010, In : Queensland

I enjoyed a nice sandwich in the railway workshops at Ipswitch. I took over 5 minutes to decide whether to go into the workshop complex or not. At $18.50 it seemed expensive, but in line with my policy of taking time for experiences I finally went in. I wasn’t disappointed. It is a very interesting place and well worth a visit. Lunch wasn't cheap either but the sandwich was good and the cheesecake was divine.

As I was the only person there I was surprised to see sandwiches in the cabi...

Goondiwindi on the Queensland border

Posted by Nikki Ah on Thursday, March 25, 2010, In : Queensland

I am sitting by the banks of a very dirty river. It is the Mcintyre river and it represents the border between Queensland and New South Wales. In Goondiwindi they have made a feature of it with a nice walkway and a small amount of seating.

Despite the beautiful orange and pink sunset behind the trees on the other bank there is nothing inviting about the river. It is the colour of milky coffee and large bunches of something that could be tree leaves or pondweed float by...and yet I know...

Mudgee to the Queensland Border

Posted by Nikki Ah on Thursday, March 25, 2010, In : New South Wales

It was a wet trip all the way to Moree. It wasn't a downpour at any time just damp and dismal and soggy. I was quite comfortable inside the wet weather gear Phil lent me and I was really enjoying myself. I forgot how much fun seeing new places from my speeding bike can be.

At Moree the sun came out so I took off the wet weather gear and  found I had damaged the bottom of one leg. Oooops.

I had several mishaps. I couldn't find my way out of Gulgong. None of the signs had the names of town...

Ready to go to Queensland again

Posted by Nikki Ah Wong on Thursday, March 25, 2010, In : Travel - General

It’s another mild morning which seems neither warm nor cold. The air just hangs on me as if I am already dressed when I am not. It is 6am and dark. I have seen Phil off to work and now I cuddle under the bed covers hoping I have made the right decision. Today I am heading up to Moree or maybe even Goondiwindi if I can do six hours on the road. I am going to Redbank Plains to see, Logan my new grandson, and the rest of my family there. Phil has fixed my bike and put on new gauges and all ...
