I am sitting outside in the sun on the balcony of a lovely house in Brisbane watching the birds. At my side are three lovely dogs.

I am doing what I love …. writing …. and thinking …. and learning about the Internet. Can life get any better? This week I am house sitting for a family who live in a beautiful house in a suburb of Brisbane called Jamboree Heights. It is a house like many others in the suburb, but what makes it really special, is the bird life. The family have encouraged the birds by feeding them every day and because I am house sitting for them, I get to benefit.

Look at this cheeky cockatoo. He has finished eating and is sitting on the letterbox showing off.

Isn’t he cute? He thinks he owns the place. He gets black sunflower seeds every morning and the pigeons enjoy what he drops.

This can’t be good for the roof but hundreds of these pigeons visit in the morning and sit there until I throw seed on the road for them.

This colourful pair were shy, but one of the magpies came and ate out of my hand.

Another beautiful visitor. I took so many lovely photos within a very short time.

I love the varieties of birds here in Australia and all the birds seem bigger and louder than I was used to in the colder Wellington region of New Zealand. Cockatoos and lorikeets are birds I only ever saw and pitied in small cages in the zoo or pet shop. Here they fly free and enjoy warm weather and good food. It seems Australia is the land of opportunity for more than just the human population.

ps. I have put some more photos on the Wildlife page of this website.
