It is lucky they don’t have a dress code at McDonalds. I went there today after my geo-hunting. I was wet with damp stringy hair, muddy shoes, cobwebs and almost certainly the odd spider or two on my person. I have been grubbing around in the forest again hunting for treasure. Sadly I wasn’t very successful but it is always an adventure exploring new places. I have found some marvellous new parks and streams, even if there is no water in some of the streams. I didn’t find many of the caches but I got lots of great photos.

It’s not easy finding my way around when I am still so new and everything changes so fast that even my GPS gets confused. There are scores of new developments within a fifty km radius of where I am staying and many of them are not just a few new homes but whole suburbs with schools, retail outlets and Industrial areas. Just last week this area next to the library was a grassy field and now it is a great wide brown scar of a hole about 800metres across.

Even in older areas things are confusing. According to my GPS this nearby house I saw on my walk this morning doesn’t exist.

Nor does the street it is on …… or the other 20 houses on this section of street
Google Earth has an aerial view of the street but only shows two of the houses. Google Maps still believes that section is missing completely.
As if that wasn’t confusing enough, there are some roads here I find very tricky.

  • Roads that makes a sharp right angle turn while straight ahead the road has a different name
  • Roads that have a missing section so there are two with the same name divided by a field.
  • Roads that change name in the middle.
  • Roads that are so long and windy that you can’t tell in which direction you are heading.

The explosion of new suburbs and roads seems likely to continue while so many people are flocking here to Queensland to live. I don’t mind the confusion. I am lucky to be here and … it all adds to the adventure. If I get lost …. it just means I get to see new parts of this wonderful country and take photos like this one.

That sure is pretty.
